Our, client a leader in the tourism industry, seeks to recruit a guides manager to join their team. The right candidate will manage and lead operations relating to the planning of tours and ensuring that meet all KPI’s. Key responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive planning and management
  • Sourcing and booking foreign language guides and ensure the guide check list/procedure is followed and all documents including reference check is kept on the server
  • Day to day management and support of the tour and scheduling assistant
  • Ensure that all scheduling is completed timeously and compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, licensing and industry requirements pertaining to tour operations and guiding
  • Attention to detail with regards the appropriate allocation of resources and reporting to HOD Ops with regard to requirements
  • Monthly check in with all drivers and guides
  • Weekly check in with all series and scheduled to ensure correct guides are allocated
  • Continuously drives towards cost optimisation and ensure drivers and guides consistently deliver and comply with itinerary
  • Verify all invoices and approve roster change requests and leave requests for the tour assistant
  • Ensure recruitment process are followed correctly and documented as per guide check list
  • Responsible for all warnings, disciplinary hearings and monthly review meeting held with Guides
  • Ensure all approved leave applications are signed by HOD and documented
  • Month-end check of all guides documentations for the month next to ensure all is up to date
  • Conduct and arrange training for all new Guides
  • Organise training in VF, CPT and NAM for guide and driver
  • Collect guide route feedback and discuss with guide
  • Assist product with checking the ops side of tour costings and yearly template checks
  • Tour budgets-Double check budgets and sign off, hand in for payments to allow monies to clear in respective guides account
  • Provide an industry analysis and comparison on guide rates
  • Assures a work environment that recruits, retains and supports quality people
  • Directing subordinates to achieve individual and team objectives
  • Ensure that documents relating to guides & drivers are maintained and updated regularly.
  • Update the monthly newsletter and Guide only Facebook page, with relevant guide information
  • Ensure SOP is followed by guides and drivers with regards to post-tour reconciliations
  • Participate to Post tour debrief with the guide and inform product on any tour update.
  • Ensure all guide payments are handed to accounts timeously and assist accounts when funds need to be recovered or when information is required to perform the reconciliation

Qualifications and experience:

  • Matric and tertiary qualification
  • Minimum two years of experience as a tour operator as well as strong admin/leadership/logistics/road-tour experience/fleet management background

Key competencies:

  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills
  • Computer literate
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Highly organised and able to multi-task
