This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptionally smart and creative individual to work on projects making a real difference to the lives of people across sub-Saharan Africa and further. You will be leading in terms of content production on selected projects whose aim is to provoke knowledge, attitude, and behaviour change for projects funded by clients including govt bodies, such as DfID, USAID, funders, and donors and major corporations.

The role of a senior online content producer is to take responsibility for the ideating, planning, writing and publishing of high-quality written content for mobile websites targeting young people across Africa.

My client delivers the mobile and online components of social development programmes across Africa and other emerging markets.

They work with clients like international development agencies and NGOs, and multinational companies and foundations, to achieve measurable social change and economic inclusion.


  • Content ideation (generating creative content ideas in line with a project’s content and community management strategy)
  • Content planning (planning of weekly/monthly content schedules, monthly themes, content frequency, and roll out of editorial calendar)
  • Content creation (following editorial guideline and processes to maintain consistent tone of voice and style when writing and publishing high-quality written content; from polls to quizzes to feature articles, etc.)
  • Publish content on your site using an online content management system
  • Work closely with expert advisors where applicable to ensure publication of accurate and reliable content
  • Site management (regular testing of site functionality, checking for bugs and broken links, on various mobile devices to ensure content and site features are in good working condition. Adding items to the backlog for site improvement)
  • Assisting in community management (moderation and engagement with site user comments and feedback)
  • Promotion (assisting the project management team with all promotional activity, writing promo copy, implementing promo activities, and reporting)
  • Social media (writing, publishing and managing user comments on various social media channels that accompany project site)
  • Contribute to the improvement of content management system in collaboration with UX designer and developers
  • Maintain awareness of key issues in the field of each project, for example, gender issues in African countries, advocacy in Africa, entrepreneurship, and sexual health


  • BA degree or graduate diploma in English, communications, marketing, journalism, advertising, or a related field
  • Demonstrable ability to create content that is informative, educational, supportive, and entertaining
  • Demonstrable creative writing skills
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Can work and self-organise autonomously
  • Experience in producing mobile-optimised content for the development, charitable, or educational sectors
  • Experience with Google Analytics, Facebook Insights, and other digital analytics tools
  • Technical/design literacy with respect to web development and mobile
  • A demonstrable ability to work with a wide range of people and roles, from executives to developers
