Vacancies currently exist in the Parks, Leisure & C
emeteries Department of the Parks, Recreation and
Culture Service Unit for Seasonal Lifeguard.
Appropriate level of secondary education, Lifeguar
d Award or equivalent with a
valid retest, valid level 2 First Aid certificate or
have obtained one within 6 months of appointment.
12 Months duties with a voluntary Surf Lifesaving Clu
b and or/ have worked one
holiday season as a temporary / seasonal Lifeguard, ope
ration of two way radios. Preferred
Matric / Grade 12, valid Code A motorcycle license
, a valid motor vehicle driver’s license
(Code EB), Preferred Experience: 18 months relevant
Performing Lifeguard duties at any designated beac
h by: Abiding by the stipulated
procedures relating to the Tower / Radio / Lookout L
ifeguard, Backup Lifeguard, Spare Lifeguard and
Patrol Lifeguard. Actively promote beach safety to
all beach users and assisting with lifesaving
demonstrations. Complying with all rules, regulations
, procedures and standing orders as a applicable to
Lifeguards. Assisting with the enforcement of the By-L
aws (Sea Shore Regulations). Setting out the
bathing area promptly with all the required equipme
nt as instructed and on time. Assist with Power
Craft (IRB/Jet Ski) operations. Assisting with launc
hing and beaching of Rescue Power Craft.
Physical Requirements for the Post:
Peak level of physical fitness and the ability to un
dertake and pass
the entrance and quarterly skills and fitness tests (as l
aid down). Adequate hearing and visual acuity.
Pass the annual medical checks.
Special Requirements for the Post:
All posts of lifeguard are interchangeable subject to
requirements. All Lifeguard staff are required to
work overtime as and when required and in terms of
the Conditions of Service. In the absence of a Senior
Lifeguard, Lifeguards are required to follow the
instructions of the Lifeguard in-charge.
Applicants may be required to participate in a comp
rehensive assessment process.
